Toyota Crown Landscape Special-edition is ready to go off-roading

With a generous amount of floor clearance and a fastback-like silhouette, the Toyota Crown blurs the difference between a sedan and a crossover It channels its off-roading genes into a special edition model called the Landscape that features rally-inspired design updates.

Revealed for the Japanese market, the Crown Landscape looks like it was built for the SEMA show. Check your calendar, though: it was four days before April Fool’s Day. It’s not a joke, an aftermarket tuner’s wild hallucination once altered, or an idea; It’s obviously real and it’s going into production. It sits about an inch higher than the regular crown, and is finished in two-tone black and Urban Khaki paintwork. Toyota added edition-exclusive 18-inch wheels, all-terrain tires and handcrafted flare wheels in Gory Gory Black.

The red mud stripes remind us of Toyota rally cars, and the Landscape comes standard with a hitch. It offers a maximum towing capacity of about 1,650 pounds, so it’s not going to tow your GR Corolla to the track the next day but it should be able to tow a small camper with ease. If the 15.2-cubic-foot trunk isn’t big enough, Toyota offers a dealer-optional storage roof over which drivers can load a cargo basket.

The landscape changes are more subtle. The cabin gets black upholstery, black trim and a “Landscape” logo on the passenger’s side of the dashboard. Like the standard Crown, the off-roading model comes standard with split-folding rear seats.

It doesn’t sound like Toyota has made technical changes to the landscape. Based on the RS trim, it is powered by a fuel-electric hybrid drivetrain that includes a turbocharged, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors (one in each axle), nickel-metal hybrid battery -Packed with a drivetrain that the most powerful in the Crown range, and is It spins the four wheels with all four wheels all via automatic with six-speed transmission.
